Dr. Majeed Foundation, the CSR arm of the multinational health and life sciences company, Sami-Sabinsa Group, recently awarded USD $30,000 in scholarships to 130 meritorious students from economically disadvantaged families in the State of Karnataka, India. The Dr. Majeed Foundation partnered with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, another not-for-profit organization, to identify deserving prospects pursing secondary school and higher education to receive the financial assistance.

At a brief ceremony held in Bengaluru in India this week, Dr. Anju Majeed, Sami-Sabinsa Group Executive Chairperson, together with The Akshaya Patra Foundation CEO Mr. Sridhar Venkat, distributed scholarships to the students being acknowledged for their academic achievements.

Expressing her delight, Dr. Anju Majeed, Group Executive Chairperson, Sami-Sabinsa Group, said, “Financial constraints can become a formidable barrier for deserving candidates to pursue higher education. We are fortunate to have had the chance to assist The Akshaya Patra Foundation in its efforts by contributing a total of USD $35,000 this year, funding student scholarships and supporting the organization’s mid-day meal program for students.”

In her address to the scholarship recipients Dr. Anju Majeed emphasized the value of education and urged the young minds to lend a hand to the less fortunate when they have the means.

In a statement, Mr. Shaheen Majeed, Sabinsa Global CEO & Managing Director, said, “The Dr. Majeed Foundation, since its inception, has provided academic and financial support to numerous students who otherwise, without this support, would have to drop out of school. It is gratifying to note that our efforts will give the students the opportunity for a bright future.”

In 2023, the Dr. Majeed Foundation donated USD $59,500 to The Akshaya Patra Foundation to provide nutritious meals for schoolchildren in the State. In the last 5 years, the Foundation has provided financial grants of USD $3.5 million to support numerous institutes, social organizations, students, and scholars, for the betterment of society.

In addition to scholarship support, the parent company, Sami-Sabinsa Group, in order to foster relationships between academia and industry, has been extending extensive internship opportunities and industrial trips to graduates and postgraduates from diverse streams at its research and manufacturing facilities. An astounding number of 1,300 students from various colleges in India have benefited from this over the past three years.
